According to Seth Schachner, managing director of digital entertainment consultancy firm Strat Americas, it's logical for Netflix to change the pricing after the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. While the streaming service needs the content, it will also be paying more for it.
]]>According to Seth Schachner, managing director of digital entertainment consultancy firm Strat Americas, it's logical for Netflix to change the pricing after the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. While the streaming service needs the content, it will also be paying more for it.
“These strikes have been a win for the writing community,” Schachner says. “They’re getting performance-based incentives, an increase in compensation and more clarity.”
All streaming services have been pushing apart the two tiers of ad-free and ad-supported subscriptions, Schachner says. The intention is to build profitability in an industry that is still struggling to make it work financially. That means raising prices on the ad-free tier, which can make the more profitable ad-supported tiers attractive.
Currently, the monthly fees for Netflix subscriptions are:
Netflix has not publicly revealed how much the prices on its two ad-free tiers will rise, but Schachner predicts it will likely be an extra dollar or two.

Some characters are really out there. And others are grounded more in reality. For example, it would be challenging to bring Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy to life. Yet chargers such as Jill Valentine from Resident Evil are easier because she is more or less a cop. And cops wear easily sourceable gear. These include gun holsters and mag pouches (see the top battle belt mag pouches reviewed here), which you can buy from good online retailers that look the part.
Getting your costume to look exactly like a video game character can be pretty tricky. But you can also take inspiration from characters. For example, you might struggle to recreate Lean S. Kennedy’s signature look. But you could opt for an Umbrella Corporation operative instead. If you need inspiration, then sites like Pinterest are a fantastic place to start. There are almost 500 million Pinterest users each month. So it’s safe to say you are likely to find something.
Good costumes start with a base. And from there, you can customize them. It’s a good idea to start with something that closely resembles your character and work from there. For instance, you can begin with a bodice and a corset if you wish to build something for a woman that wouldn’t look out of place in The Witcher, Dragon Age, or The Elder Scrolls. Then it’s a case of adding extras that fit more with the style of the game, such as Daedric symbols or armor.
There’s surprisingly little in the way of official costumes you can buy for video game characters. However, there are various items that you can source in numerous ways. For a little more authenticity, you may also have to look elsewhere and buy unofficial recreations. Here’s how:
Online stores, such as the Bethesda store, offer a small amount of official stuff you could use. However, the best stuff usually comes from special editions. For example, the special edition of Fallout 4 comes with an awesome wearable Pip-Boy to make you look like a wastelander.
Like the video game community, LARPing has its own corners of the internet where you can meet with like-minded people. You can discuss ideas, get tips on costuming and find out when there will be meetups in your area. Some of the best LARP games include medieval fantasy, sci-fi apocalypse, and horror mysteries. All of which any of your famous and favorite video game characters, such as The Dragonborn, Master Chief, and Albert Wesker, would fit right into.
The designs of video game characters are often very complex and take a long time to develop. Additionally, they are unique, so they can compete with and stand out against the multitude of competitor video games. Therefore, it can be a challenge to get what you need, such as Aloy’s beads. However, Etsy is your friend. Etsy is home to talented craftspeople who can make pretty much anything. Some already offer video game items you can’t buy, and others take requests.
You can have the best costume in the world. But it’s useless if you don’t embrace your character. Just take a look around your next convention to see the ones that stand out and draw the crowds. It’s the fans who really get into character, even if their costume isn’t perfect. To become your character, learn the movements, mannerisms, and even the way they would speak. Doing this will make all your costuming efforts pay off and transport you to another world.
You can get into your video game costuming and LARPing even more by drawing inspiration from your favorite worlds and characters. For an authentic look, you can buy real fear, such as mag holders. You can also buy official merchandise and practice becoming your characters.

Living with The Walking Dead will be on view June 25, 2022–January 1, 2023 at MoMI
Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) and AMC Networks partner to present , a major exhibition devoted to the groundbreaking series The Walking Dead as it enters its final season. Opening on June 25, 2022, at the Museum in Astoria, Queens, the exhibition explores key aspects of the show’s origins, production, and impact. The exhibition will be accompanied by multiple screening series and other public events over a six-month span, closing on January 1, 2023.
“It’s wonderful to be once again partnering with AMC Networks, this time to present an exhibition devoted to the long-running original series The Walking Dead,” said Carl Goodman, MoMI Executive Director. “More than just a television show, it is a cultural phenomenon that is adored by legions of fans, who celebrate the innovative, engaging, and immersive world that its makers have built, and for its diverse cast of characters. The exhibition will bleed outward from our temporary exhibitions gallery and into our theaters, classrooms, and other public spaces.”
"Over 11 seasons and 177 episodes, The Walking Dead has built a vibrant and massive global fan following, becoming one of the most beloved franchises in television,” said Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. "We’re delighted to work with MoMI on an exhibition and lineup of events to commemorate this beloved series’ historic run, the immensely talented creative team, cast, and crew who brought it to life, and give this incredible fanbase a new and exciting way to experience their favorite show.”
The exhibition Living with The Walking Dead, in the Museum’s third-floor changing exhibitions gallery, will probe the issues at the heart of the series: the related threats of the murderous undead and the collapse of the social order. It will explore the cinematic and literary antecedents of The Walking Dead, including its origin in Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, and present the unique innovations that the AMC Networks series has contributed, with its wide-ranging story of survival, diverse cast of characters, and devoted legion of fans. The exhibition will include original costumes and props, concept art, storyboards, scripts, and a wealth of prosthetic makeup material. Created by Special Effects Makeup Supervisor and Executive Producer Greg Nicotero and his team at the award-winning KNB EFX studios, the special effects makeup transformed legions of cast members into vividly realized undead walkers, largely using practical effects.
The Walking Dead premiered on Halloween night in 2010 as the #1 cable series launch of all time and is the most-watched series in cable history. It was the first cable series to become the #1 show in all of television, including broadcast, a rank it held for five consecutive years. The series has also given life to a vibrant and expanding content universe that currently includes Talking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, two spinoffs planned for 2023, and the forthcoming episodic anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead.
AMC Networks continues to develop new content rooted in the unique and entertaining world of The Walking Dead, one of the most powerful franchises in the history of television, which currently has more than 50 million social followers and fans across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, a thriving presence in gaming, The Art of AMC’s The Walking Dead Universe coffee-table book, and a variety of other extensions through which this passionate fan community connects with stories and characters unlike anything else on television.

]]>This October, MeTV unearths the very first “Svengoolie’s Halloween BOOnanza,” a month-long celebration of all things Svengoolie, promising spooky, kooky and fiendishly fun movies, programs and specials for the entire family. And of course, highlighting the BOOnanza is another fiendishly fun classic horror movie title debuting every Saturday night at 8pm ET/PT, with host Svengoolie.
For 43 years, Svengoolie has entertained horror fans with his signature brand of satire and slapstick gags, poking fun at the classic horror films that defined the genre and the low-budget cult flicks nearly forgotten. After airing on local TV in Chicago, Svengoolie debuted on MeTV – America’s #1 classic television network – in 2011, introducing Sven and his ghouly gang to a new generation of viewers and fans nationwide.
Brought to life by Chicago media veteran Rich Koz from 1979, Svengoolie – along with his smart-mouthed sidekick, rubber chicken Kerwyn – has catapulted from Chicago cult celebrity to national icon, drawing audiences of thousands at fan events across the country. Throughout his distinguished career, Koz has earned eight regional Emmy Awards and was inducted into the Chicago Television Academy’s prestigious “Silver Circle” in 2004 for his outstanding contribution to Chicago television. Koz has also earned 11 Rondo Awards, which honor the best in the horror/sci-fi genre, for Favorite Horror Host. In 2020, Koz was inducted into the Rondo “Monster Kid Hall of Fame.”
In 2014, the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago unveiled a Svengoolie exhibit featuring his original coffin and other exclusive artifacts from the show’s set. In 2016, Svengoolie teamed up with Rock & Roll legend Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon for the hit single, “The Svengoolie Stomp” available on iTunes! Koz’s extensive career is chronicled in the popular book Chicago TV Horror Movie Shows- from Shock Theatre to Svengoolie written by Ted Okuda and Mark Yurkiw, and available from Lake Claremont Press.
In 2019, to celebrate his 40th anniversary, Svengoolie made his comic book debut in the limited comic insert series “Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe”, starring alongside DC Comics super-heroes Superman, Wonder Woman, as well as Gotham nemesis The Joker.
