LAST MINUTE, a charming and fast-paced comedy short written and directed by Michael Cusumano will make its New York Premiere as an official selection at Tribeca Festival.
Set in 1989, before the internet reshaped everyone’s lives, LAST MINUTE follows Jackie (Charity Schubert), a single mother forced into a late-night scramble when her 12-year-old son waits until the eve of a major school assignment to begin his work. As the clock ticks down, the dilemma unfolds into a comedic and heartfelt portrait of responsibility, determination, and the incredible lengths a parent will go for the sake of their child.
A Grand Prize winner at Louisiana Film Prize, the idea of the film emerged when the director realized that he had reached an age where his childhood recollections had begun to take on historical value. Fueled by nostalgia of a time before Google, the film celebrates human connection and the kind of resourcefulness that modern convenience has gradually eroded.
“Our story’s mother and son would surely love a magic device to do the homework for them, but the effects of their scrambling ripple throughout the community, strengthens bonds, and leads them into memories they will treasure.” - Michael Cusumano
