Designing the Perfect Being

Description: What defines the perfect being in the human imagination? Is it a beautiful face and a well-proportioned body? A physique capable of leaping higher without fatigue? Or a life freed from the conditions that make us imperfect emotion, aging, and disease?
This series explores the transformation of human appearance and ability into data, and their subsequent reconstruction into an idealized form.
The beauty learned by a machine is not a matter of individual perception, but something closer to a statistical outcome shaped by faces that have been repeatedly selected and preferred.
The figures in these works are therefore not portraits of particular individuals.
They are composite beings formed from desires and standards accumulated over time.
The streams of code and transparent mechanical structures layered across their faces are more than visual signs of technology.
The code represents the systems through which bodies are classified and evaluated, while the transparent mechanisms suggest new organs added to correct human limitations.
As the boundaries between skin and machine, face and interface begin to dissolve, the body appears less like a living organism and more like a system under continuous revision.
Optimization, however, does not necessarily lead to completion. As a face moves closer to an average, individual differences begin to disappear.
As imperfections and traces are erased, so too are the qualities that make a person distinct.
The resulting faces are beautiful and meticulously constructed, yet they remain unfamiliar standards belonging to no one.
The work is not simply concerned with the kind of human being technology may one day create. It asks what we are teaching technology to recognize as perfect.
The perfect being may not be an invention of the machine at all, but another image of humanity formed by projecting our desires, fears, and sense of lack into data.
