The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) announced the world premiere of PRETTY DIRTY: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MARILYN MINTER in its official selection. The new documentary offers an intimate portrait of Marilyn Minter, the provocateur who's been electrifying the art world since the 1970s, debuting at the HIFF with two screenings: October 11 in East Hampton and October 12 in Southampton.

Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion; the first of which will be moderated by author and journalist Molly Jong-Fast, a longtime friend of Minter, in an intimate conversation with Minter alongside the film’s directors. Perri Peltz, the Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist, and public health advocate, will be moderating the panel following the second screening, alongside Anne Pasternak, Shelby White and Leon Levy Director of the Brooklyn Museum, Marilyn Minter, and the directors, Jennifer Ash Rudick and Amanda M. Benchley.

Through the lens of Minter’s uncompromising work, the film is a reintroduction of a pivotal female artist to a new generation and an art world that has yet to embrace her fully. Marilyn Minter famously transforms forbidden subjects—sex, shame, and aging—into hypnotic, larger-than-life masterpieces that seduce and disturb in equal measure and have profoundly influenced fashion, film, and generations of artists. The cast—including Jane Fonda, Monica Lewinsky, Lizzo, Laurie Simmons, Mickalene Thomas, Padma Lakshmi, Glenn Ligon, Jeff Koons, and others—bring voices that underscore Marilyn’s impact across generations and disciplines.

From a Southern childhood right out of Faulkner through New York's raw underground to today's billion-dollar art market, Minter's journey unfolds through rare archival footage and powerful testimonies from art world luminaries. The audience follows her ascent until an explosive exhibition detonates her career and Minter learns a hard truth: sex doesn't always sell.

Three decades later, PRETTY DIRTY documents Minter tackling some of her most ambitious work yet as she portrays cultural icons and her personal heroes in large-scale paintings. At nearly 80, Minter remains on the cutting edge, working with the same bold curiosity and appetite for disruption that defined her earliest days. Again and again, Minter has turned the subjects of public scrutiny into images that are not taboo, but fiercely beautiful and firmly in control of their own narrative, something Minter herself has struggled with
