The Harvey Awards Announce Hall of Fame Inductees for 2026

The Harvey Awards today revealed this year’s inductees into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame in advance of the 38th Harvey Awards ceremony to be held during New York Comic Con (NYCC)on Friday, October 9.

The 2026 Harvey Awards will honor thirteen recipients (four living, nine posthumously) who represent some of the most seminal figures in sequential art — particularly with their contributions to Batman — over the past eight decades. The honorees are legendary writer and artist Frank Miller ( master inker and artist Klaus Janson  influential artist and writer David Mazzucchelli  and renowned longtime DC president and publisher Jenette Kahn; and, posthumously, Jerry Robinson, Dick Sprang, Carmine Infantino, Frank Robbins, Denny O’Neil, Dick Giordano, Jim Aparo, Marshall Rogers, and Tim Sale.

“What an honor to be inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame,” said Frank Miller. “EC Comics were a huge influence on me, and Harvey Kurtzman was obviously a key contributor to what made those books so fantastic! I consider Harvey a master cartoonist, and his use of satire really paved the way for entertainment as a whole. With the anniversary of The Dark Knight Returns and Daredevil: Born Again, it couldn’t be more fitting for me to be inducted alongside Klaus, Dick, Denny, David, and Jenette.”

“In this field, as in any community, we know who the important people are. I met Harvey Kurtzman in 1989, and knew him only for a short time, but I admired and learned from his work,” said David Mazzucchelli. “Indeed, no one who read comics over the past 70 years could have escaped his influence. I am honored to have my name placed in proximity to his.”

Larry O’Neil, son of esteemed writer and editor Denny O’Neil, said, “When my father started writing comic books, it was viewed as a disreputable way to make a living. At least he felt that way. His mostly-blue-collar family didn’t approve very much, but he brought their work ethic to the task. He valued being a professional, whose first job was to make the deadline and generate enough pages to keep his young family off the soup line. Of course, he took pride in his work. He hoped that whoever paid the fifteen cents would be entertained, and maybe an occasional reader might even notice a story was surprisingly pretty good. Even poignant. But my father inherited a lot of self-deprecating humility from that Midwestern family, so he didn’t say that last part out loud very often. Whatever his ambitions were, he certainly didn’t imagine a future with any awards like this one.”

“We are deeply honored to see Marshall recognized with this prestigious induction into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame,” said Suzanne Rogers Schmachtenberger, acknowledging the posthumous award for her brother, Marshall Rogers. “Marshall was a creative, sweet-natured person with a wonderful sense of humor, and those qualities were reflected in both his life and his work. He brought extraordinary attention to detail to his art, shaped by his deep passion for the history of Batman and his respect for the character’s rich legacy. It is especially meaningful to our family to see his dedication, creativity, and contributions to the comics industry celebrated in this way.”

A selection of the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at the first ever Harvey Awards panel on Friday, October 9, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. (Javits North, room 409), hosted by former DC president and publisher Paul Levitz and headlined by Frank Miller. The panel is open to all NYCC badgeholders. The annual Harvey Awards ceremony will host the living inductees later in the evening, in addition to presenting the winners of Harvey Awards across seven categories, including “Best Manga,” “Best Young Adult Book,” and “Book of the Year.”

The Harvey Awards Steering Committee is co-chaired by Nellie Kurtzman, John Lind, and Chip Mosher.
