Skincare For Men: How to Build An Effective Routine

Skincare For Men: How to Build An Effective Routine

Skincare is one of the primary self-grooming habits that everyone should take seriously, but usually, men just stick to the simple things. Studies have shown that men have more collagen and elastin that makes their skin thicker and firmer than women, but men can still face many of the same issues that women deal with. More men are now looking to have a better skincare routine, and here are a few tips on how to do just that.

Know your skin type

The first step to proper skincare is knowing your skin type. This will help you choose the components of your routine such as organic grooming products to healthily nourish your skin. There are different skin types, including normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, and combination skin. You can find your skin type by merely checking yourself out in the mirror closely or taking a tissue paper test.

Choose the right products for your skin

Go for skincare products that match your skin type. If there are products made specifically for men with your skin type, get it. If your skin is sensitive, buy products that are “mild,” and if you have acne-prone skin, purchase products with ingredients that cater to that condition. Choosing the right products will strengthen and revitalize your skin. It is crucial to pay attention to the labels and ingredients of skin care products as they will provide vital information that will help you make a decision.

Cleanse

Throughout the day, the skin gets oily and dirty, and cleansing is a great way to take good care of it. Having a good cleansing routine will help clear blocked pores and keep the skin healthy. Proper cleansing will also aid in avoiding blackheads. Use products that match your skin to prevent irritation.

Apply sunscreen

The sun is a major source of skin damage. Most notable of these are age spots, wrinkles, and possibly cancer. Using sunscreen will help you take better care of your skin. Exposed skin areas such as the neck, lips, and arms should be protected with sunscreen. Studies show that for men, an SPF of 30 or higher is acceptable. Reapply sunscreen every two hours when outdoors or wear sun-protective clothes.

Moisturize

Moisture is great for your skin and keeps it soft and supple. Using moisturizers is an excellent way of trapping water in the skin, making it appear smoother and younger. The best time to apply moisturizer is right after you step out of the shower when the skin is still damp. Once again, find a moisturizer that works for your skin.

Adjust your shaving technique

As a man, shaving is one thing you pay attention to. You may have been shaving for years, and you definitely have the experience, but that does not mean you are doing it right. Using the proper technique and good blades will save you a lot of stress. Before shaving, soften your skin and hair by wetting it, then apply moisturizing shaving cream. Now when you pick the blade, remember to shave in the direction of your hair growth.

Discard your shaving blade after every five shaves to reduce the incidence of irritation. If you have or notice razor bumps, razor burns, or ingrown hairs, change the type of blade or razor you use. Also, do not stretch your skin taut while you shave as it might cause the blade or razor to shave too closely for your skin.
