TRENQUE LAUQUEN by Laura Citarella Opens April 21

 North theatrical release of Trenque Lauquen, the gripping and novelistic opus by acclaimed Argentine director Laura Citarella. Winner of the award for Best Latin American Picture at the Mar de Plata Film Festival, and a favorite at the Venice, San Sebastian, and New York film festivals, the film will have its U.S. theatrical release starting Friday, April 21 at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City, followed by a special screening at the American Cinematheque on Saturday, April 29, and theatrical engagements in other cities.

 

About the director:
Born and raised in La Plata, and with family roots in Trenque Lauquen, Laura Citarella (Argentina, 1981) graduated as a film director from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Since 2005, she has been part of El Pampero Cine Production Company, along with Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky and Agustín Mendilaharzu. She has directed the feature films Ostende (2011), Dog Lady (La mujer de los perros, 2015, co-directed with Verónica Llinás), The Poets Visit Juana Bignozzi (Las poetas visitan a Juana Bignozzi, 2019, co-directed with Mercedes Halfon). Her work has screened at numerous international film festivals including Venice, New York, San Sebastian, Viennale, AFI Fest, New Directors/New Films, Rotterdam. Citarella has also made a name for herself as one of the biggest independent movie producers in Argentina. Her production work includes, among others, Mariano Llinás’s Extraordinary Stories and La Flor, and Alejo Moguillansky’s CastroThe Parrot and the SwanThe Gold Bug (co-directed with Fia-Stina Sandlund), 
and For the Money.
